Review
CasualX is a hookup app for iOS and Android that’s designed purely for finding no-strings attached sexual encounters. Billed as an alternative to Craigslist, the app allows you to hookup with men, women or couples in your area for a day or night of fun!
The CasualX Brand
The CasualX app has been featured in the media a number of times by sites such as AskMen, Metro, GQ and more. The developers appear to take customer support seriously and respond to any reviews in the app store, providing their support email. There’s also a press page and contact details for the press team on the website, so they’re keen to promote their app. To date the app has around 500,000 members worldwide, with an estimated 200,000 active members.
Registration
The registration process for CasualX is fairly quick and simple. Just tell the app who you are and who you are looking for (male, female or couple). You’re then asked to input your age, height and location. At this point you can choose to enable the app to see your location automatically or deny access and input your zipcode manually. Then you’re asked to create a username and password and provide your email address, ticking the box to agree to the service agreement and privacy policy.
CasualX asks all users to create a lock pattern on their phone screen before registration is complete, to protect the privacy of your account. Your profile will then be manually reviewed once you have filled out your details, which can take anywhere from 20 minutes to around 8 hours. Once it’s approved you’ll get a push notification and an email. Once you’re approved you can use the search function and view profiles, but in order to send messages or read messages you’ll need to upgrade to paid membership at $14.99 a month or 6 months (paid in advance) for $54.99.
The developers also offer a free upgrade to gold membership for anybody sharing the app on their Twitter, Instagram, Facebook or blog. You must meet certain criteria and send them a screenshot of your share in order to be eligible for the free upgrade.
Desktop/Mobile Capability
CasualX is a mobile app for Android and iOS smartphones. Although the app gets a slightly lower rating in the Google Play store than in the Apple store, both apps perform reliably and feature a clean, fresh design and easy to navigate layout. There’s no desktop or mobile site.
User Experience
The layout and design of the app is bold and colourful in black, white and red, which adds a somewhat sophisticated feel to what is essentially a casual sex messaging app. Because all users on the app are looking for a no-strings hook-up, there’s no messing around, so conversations tend to move fast and include sexting or arranging a meetup. The app is easy to navigate and use and both the iOS and Android apps perform reliably.
Safety and Security
CasualX take the safety, security and privacy of their users very seriously. For this reason, all profiles are manually approved before they go live. This does mean you’ll have to wait anywhere up to 8 hours to use the app after creating your account, but on the plus side you’ll be protected from fake profiles and bots.
The app also insists you create a lock screen pattern which does feel a little like overkill – some members have mentioned they would prefer a simple passcode or pin. However this means your app and messages remain totally private.
Customer Service
There doesn’t seem to be any way to contact CasualX support throughout the sign-up process on the app, although a contact email for the developer is listed on the app download pages in the Apple and Google Play stores. Go to the CasualX website however and there is a ‘contact us’ option which gives you a support email address. The developers seem to take support seriously and generally reply to reviews in the app stores, providing a contact email for anybody experiencing issues.
Conclusion
As a no-strings-attached hook-up app, CasualX does what it says on the tin. True, the wait to have your profile approved manually may be irritating if you’re looking for instant gratification, but the safety and security of the app is second-to-none and you know you won’t be chatting with a bot or messaging a fake profile.
Both the Android and iOS apps perform reliably and are easy to use, but the fact you have to upgrade to paid membership to send and receive messages may put some people off. Unless you live in a big city, you may find a lack of members in your area, and as there are more men than women using the app, men may find they don’t get many messages at all! So we give CasualX a middle of the road 5.2!
